About Fairly Grounded
Our Coffee
The Beans
At Fairly Grounded, we start with coffee beans custom roasted for us by Portland Roasting. One reason we chose Portland Roasting is that we believe in their direct, fair program that benefits the growers. The second, and equally important reason we use their beans is that they are delicious. Our espresso blend is “bittersweet, sultry and heavy. . . [and] exudes cinnamon spice notes with smoky aromatics”. There are also chocolaty notes and it has an incredibly smooth finish. Our decaf espresso is produced using the Swiss water process, so it is chemical free. While espresso roasts require careful blending to achieve the desired balance of flavors, nearly all of our other coffee beans we carry are single origin, meaning that they are not blended. One of the advantages in having single origin coffees is that you are able to taste and enjoy the distinctive differences between coffees.
The Equipment
We make all of our espresso using the finest machine available: The La Marzocco. This beautiful piece of equipment is from Italy and is unsurpassed for pulling the perfect shot. Our “brewed” coffee is actually produced using a French Press, and is refreshed every hour throughout the day, so you will enjoy it at its most flavorful. Just in case our coffee of the day isn’t your favorite, we will make you a cup from any of the coffee beans we carry using either the French press or our pour-over station.
The Baristas
Our baristas are all certified, after completing the American Barista School’s Barista 101 examination and achieving a perfect score. Each of them is continuing her advanced training, and taking pride in producing consistently excellent (and beautifully latte-art embellished) coffee.
Our Tea
The teas we serve at Fairly Grounded are from Rishi Tea and are extraordinary! They are beautiful to see and amazing to smell. Most importantly they are delicious. All are fair trade, many are organic, and some are Rain Forest Alliance.
Our Space
We think you will love the atmosphere at Fairly Grounded. It is modern but cosy, and we have a comfortable seating area where you can observe the seahorse tank. We have free Wii Fi too, so you can do your homework or just surf the internet. On Saturday mornings we have Yoga next door at Artisans Fairtrade. The space is also available for some events. If you are hungry, you can try something from our menu.
